About Kart Crazy

Kart Crazy is owned and managed by me, Shaun Finch. I am an electronic engineer. I spent the first 15 years of my career commissioning RADAR and weapon systems on Navy ships.

I have been involved in motorsport, racing motorbikes, from the mid-90s to 2007. In that time I designed one of the first “speed shifters” for clutch-less gear changes.

In 2011 my son Jack was 7, old enough to start practicing in a kart. We bought him an old WTP 2 stroke in a Arrow Cadet Chassis & I bought a Rotax Max for me. We had loads of issues with the WTP so changed it for a Honda. This allowed both of us to do practice days at Clay Pigeon & Forest edge.  Once Jack got the hang of it he would do over 100 laps of Clay in a day - those where great days & he always slept well in the car on the way home!

March 2012 we lined up for our first MSA kart meeting at Forest Edge. I quickly realised trying to look after Jack and race myself was too much, so I took the back seat and became his mechanic. I kept my kart and did lots of test days and a little IKR racing. Jack went on to win many races and compete in SuperOne.

It was apparent to me the cost of kart electronics was high. So I started repairing transponders and designed sensors to work with MyChron & Alfano lap timers – Kart Crazy was born.

Since then we have expanded our range to include 3D printed kart products & use the printer to make lap sensor cases.

We try to be as “green” as possible. Our office/workshop is solar powered and we use PLA, which is a biodegradable plastic made from renewable natural resources.

Kart Crazy was established in 2012, originally repairing kart transponders. Shortly after we began to designed, manufactured and sold direct to racers sensors for MyChron & Alfano lap sensors.

In 2015 we added 3D printing to our options. This improved the housing for the sensors and allowed us to design & make LASER alignment system for karts, also handy parts like carb protectors, steering spacers etc.
